Meraner Höhenweg

Life is better in the mountains

With a length of 12 kilometers, the Waalweg (path along the irrigation canal) of Marling is the longest in South Tyrol. Why is this important to you? Since only a few hundred meters of air-line distance are seperating you from the path, it definitely belongs to the must-dos of your holiday in South Tyrol. However, if you don’t leave your apartment for less than 1,000 meters in altitude, you should already study the route of the Merano high mountain trail and the tours in the Hirzer area or the Texel group. Detailed tour information you will gladly get on the spot. Guided hikes for free are offered by the local tourist office.

Bozner Lauben

Small cities with big offer

It lies between palms and hilltops, the city on the Passer river, which may also be referred to as a spa town or simply as Merano. Shops and boutiques line up under the archades, cactus and palms alternate along the Tappeiner path, 80 plant landscapes happily bloom in the gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle, while the visitors of the thermal baths Merano enjoy 25 different pools as well as treatments with milk, apple and wine. However, the most famous South Tyrolean lives in Bolzano: Ötzi. A visit of the “iceman” can be ideally combined with a stroll through the fruit market, the Walther square and the archades.

Mountainbike Vigiljoch

In the saddle

Hiking is the South Tyrolean’s desire, but sometimes we do not have anything against one horsepower or two pedals. Whether Haflinger, road bike, mountain or e-bike – the landscape of Merano and environs can be wonderfully explored in the saddle too. In spring and autumn, the valley impresses with flowering orchards and colorful vineyards, in summer the high altitude attracts with its refreshing temperatures and shady forests. Bikes and horses with professional advices and training are available in the surrounding cycling and riding stables.

Weihnachtsmarkt Meran

Christmas time…

Mulled wine, handcrafted work of art, a romantic atmosphere – sounds like Cristmas on the South Tyrolean Christmas markets. Why not exchange the pre-Christmas rush at home for Christmas shopping between snowy mountain peaks? And who knows: Maybe there will still be time for relax in the thermal baths of Merano or some hours of skiing, tobogganing or winter hiking in the surrounding ski areas.
